Benha Medical Journal follows double anonymized review process i.e., the identities of the authors are hidden from the reviewers, and vice versa. To facilitate this, please submit the following files separately:
Title page (containing author details, acknowledgements, and any Declaration of Interest statement)
Blinded (Anonymized) manuscript (without author details): The main part of the manuscript (including the references, figures, and tables) should not have any identifying information about the authors' names or affiliations.
Title page(submitted as a separate Word file)
• Title: should be concise and informative and avoid abbreviations and formulae where possible (template is provided).
• Author names and affiliations:
The given name(s) of each author should be accurate and correctly spelled.
Provide the authors' affiliation addresses (where the actual work was done) below the names.
Provide the e-mail address of each author.
If available, the 16-digit ORCID of the author(s).
Corresponding author: Is the one who will handle correspondence at all stages of refereeing publication, and after publication. Ensure that the contact details (e-mail address, t and telephone number, the affiliation especially the department and the institute) of the corresponding author are accurate and up to date.
Acknowledgements: of the individuals who provided help during the research (e.g., providing language assistance, writing help, or proof-reading the article, etc.).
Funding
Authors should describe any funding sources which have supported the work including details of any grants received (provide the name of the funding agency and grant number). e.g.
“This work was supported by […] (Grant numbers […] and […]). Author A.B. has received research support from Company A.”
“The authors declare that no funds, grants, or other support were received during the preparation of this manuscript.”
Blinded Manuscript(submitted as a separate Word file)
Your manuscript should contain the following sections in the following order:
To keep uniform standards of presentation, and appearance, the next instructions should be followed.
All text should be 12-point Times New Roman font and double spaced.
The lines must be consecutively numbered using the software's continuous line numbering feature. Do NOT number the lines manually.
Use the automatic page numbering function to number the pages.
Save your file in docx format (Word 2007 or higher) or doc format (older Word versions).
Manuscript margin is one inch (25.4mm) on the sides, top, and bottom.
MAIN HEADINGS are bold upper-case.
Subheadingsare italic bold font, capitalizing the first letter of the first word of the subheading.
Language: To avoid unnecessary errors, it is strongly advised to use the 'spell-check' and 'grammar-check' review before submission. Please set your dictionary and spellcheck functions to United States English language. Your investigation and the outcomes should be in the past tense. Present tense is reserved for discussing ongoing states of knowledge (e.g., “Open reduction and internal fixation is the treatment of choice for displaced, unstable fractures”).
"Degrees" of measured angles should be spelled out. Only use the degree symbol for temperature, followed by C or F or K.
Decimals: Write all decimal numbers in the same formatting by placing zero before the decimal point, except when expressing probability values (P, α, and β). For example, 0.5 mg/kg, but P = .16. Commas are not to be used in decimals.
The symbols > and < should only be used in equations, such as (p < .005). If used in a sentence, spell it out. For example, (These studies showed less than 5% involvement).
Numbers within the text up to and including ten should be spelled out (e.g., ten). This does not apply to numbers in brackets (10). All numbers above ten, 11 onwards are written as numerals. Do not start sentences with numerals (should be spelled out or if it is a large number change the structure of the sentence to write it as numeral inside the sentence).
The terms sex and gender should be used correctly.
For gender neutrality, use plural nouns e.g., clinicians, patients as default wherever possible to avoid using "he, she," or "he/she".
Abbreviations should be spelled in full at first mention and used consistently thereafter. e.g., “…deep peroneal nerve (DPN).”
ABSTRACT
Provides summary of the article contents in 150-250 words or less. It should be structured into
Purpose (stating the main purposes and research question)
Patients (Materials) Methods
Results
Conclusion
Keywords
Immediately after the abstract, provide 3 to 5 keywords.
Only abbreviations firmly established in the field may be eligible.
Should have the first letter of each word capitalized and listed using semicolons.
INTRODUCTION
Define the objectives of the work and provide an adequate background without detailed literature survey.
MATERIAL AND METHODS
The author should mention the type of study, when, where the study was carried out and how many subjects or animal were participating.
Also should mention inclusion & exclusion criteria, if present.
If the study is a clinical investigation involving human participants, use the heading "Patients and Methods." If the study involves animals, cadavers, or in vitro or computer models of any sort, use the heading "Materials and Methods."
Studies including animal and/or human subjects must provide the approval of the relevant Ethics Committee or Institutional Review Board with the full name of the committee and the approval number.
Methods section should present the details of inclusion and exclusion criteria for patients in clinical studies, study population, research methodology, assessment systems with the relevant references citation, and the statistical methods used.
Randomized controlled trials should follow the CONSORT guidelines. Authors must provide a flow diagram that illustrates the progress of patients through the trial, including recruitment, enrollment, randomization, withdrawal and completion, and a detailed description of the randomization procedure.Use the term "participants" if the described diagnostic test or intervention is experimental and is not yet approved for use. Use the term "patients" for tests or interventions that are already known to be therapeutic, effective, and safe.
For systematic reviews and meta-analyses, include a Christmas tree diagram.
Use the following symbols “®” or “™” to indicate that a proprietary substance (e.g., a medication), equipment, or software program is a registered trademark. Name the proprietary equipment or apparatus together with the name and address of the manufacturer.
Methods which are already published should be summarized and cite the reference. Modifications to the existing methods are described.
Authors should include a statement in the manuscript that informed consent was obtained from participants (or their parent or legal guardian of children under 18) to participate in the study. A statement of this should be provided in the manuscript. e.g.:
“An informed consent was obtained from all individual participants included in the study.”
“An informed consent was obtained from the parents(or legal guardian) of individual children participants included in the study.”
Statistical Analysis
ü Provide the used statistical methods and the used software program e.g., IBM SPSS Statistics for Windows, Version 22.0 (IBM Corp., Armonk, NY, USA).
ü About sample size for a study, it would be optimal if applicable to address the sample size calculation. e.g., a post-hoc calculation for retrospective studies, and an a priori calculation for prospective research (or a post-hoc calculation when an a priori calculation was not completed). If the study was found to be underpowered after sample size calculation, then, in the discussion define exactly how many subjects would be needed for the research to be completed with adequate power.
RESULTS
This section should provide all the relevant data, described in a concise meaningful way, with tables or figures where appropriate.
The term 'significant' is used only to describe a statistical significance. A P value is needed when this word is used.
Power ranges and correlations should be italicized: P = .05, r = 0.0003. Student t test should have Student capitalized because it is a proper noun (but the phrase is not italicized).
DISCUSSION
The discussion should consider the results and possible confounding factors, sources of bias, and a review of the relevant literature, putting the results of the study in the context of previous work in this area. The Discussion should also state both the strengths and the weaknesses of the study. No names of authors are allowed in the section of discussion.
REFERENCES
Citation:
We no longer accept references of papers given at meetings, personal communications, doctoral theses, or obscure references that cannot be verified.
Reference citations in the text are identified by numbers in rounded brackets & superscript, before the period ending the sentence. e.g.,
1. … with no consensus on the best treatment modality (3).
2. Sala et al. (4) reported three nonunions.
3. This effect has been widely studied (1-3, 7).
Citations inside the sentence must be placed before commas, semi-colons, and colons. e.g., The foot is connected to the ankle (4,6-9,22); the knee (4), thigh (10), and ankle (54) are all parts of the leg.
Reference list
Should be numbered consecutively (not alphabetical).
Always use the standard abbreviation of a journal’s name according to the ISSN List of Title Word Abbreviations [Tip; Simply use the abbreviations given on using the Pubmed search]. If you are unsure, use the full journal name.
List all authors when six or less; when seven authors or more, list the first six and add et al. after them.
If an article has a DOI, it may be included at the end of the reference

In the table title, the term “Table” and the number should be bold font, with the title following in regular (not bold) font. If some of the cases were bilateral, it is preferable to specify (for example the number of feet, and the number of patients). Use upper case "N" for the total sample size, and lower case "n" for the subgroup sizes. For example,
Table 1 A statistical description of the cohort (N = 78 feet in 76 patients)."
For subgroups, column headings might say: "Control group (n = 28)" and "Intervention group (n =34)".
FIGURES
In text figure citation must be spelled out in parentheses and included BEFORE punctuation e.g., (Figure 1).
Figure Captions (Legends) are placed in the text file of the manuscript after TABLES. Figure captions begin with the term “Figure” in bold type, followed by the figure number, also in bold type. Each caption should be concise describing accurately what the figure depicts. Identify all elements found in the figure in the figure caption.
Radiographic images should be submitted in grayscale format, with the projection spelled out in full (e.g., anteroposterior, lateral, etc.).
Figures previously published in other sources should be accompanied by a letter from that publishing company and author, granting permission for their use.
Submit figure files in color. Colors will display in the online version. The print version will be in black and white. Color figures will not be printed unless the author or institution pays the expense of including the color in the print issue.
Resolution must be at least 300 dpi or higher to ensure the best-quality reproduction.
When uploading, please upload each figure as a separate file.
Remove any identifiable information on the patient, author, or author institution.
Changes to authorship
Authors are expected to carefully consider the definitive list and order of authors before submitting their manuscripts. To request a change, the Editor must receive (a) the reason for such change in author list and (b) a written confirmation (e-mail, letter) from all authors that they agree with the addition, removal, or rearrangement.

Ethical Responsibilities of Authors
The manuscript must not be submitted to more than one journal for at the same time.
The submitted paper should be original and should not have been published elsewhere (partially or in full) unless the new work involves an expansion of a previous work.
A single study should not be split up into several parts to increase the quantity of submissions and submitted to various journals or to one journal over time (i.e., ‘salami-slicing/publishing’).
Results should be presented clearly, honestly, and without fabrication, falsification, or inappropriate data manipulation (including image-based manipulation).
Plagiarism is using previously published work without properly citing the original publication in the text of a paper. If the paper is found to have significant duplication with previous publications, it will be rejected before review and all the authors of the paper will receive a letter giving the reason for rejection.
Authors may revise the text to eliminate the duplicated text at which time the article can be submitted to the journal again.
The maximum number of Authors allowed for each article review or original to be a maximum of six authors.
