Abstract

The well-known medicinal plant ginger (Zingiber officinale) has drawn a lot of interest due to its possible therapeutic benefits, especially in the treatment of cancer. Bioactive substances that come from ginger, like paradol, shogaol, and gingerol, have amazing anticancer qualities that make them excellent options for complementary cancer treatments. These substances have a variety of modes of action, such as apoptosis induction, metastasis suppression, cancer cell proliferation inhibition, and modification of important signaling pathways implicated in carcinogenesis. Additionally, their antioxidant and anti-inflammatory qualities increase their effectiveness in stopping the spread of cancer. Recent research has demonstrated the beneficial effects of ginger compounds when combined with traditional chemotherapy, indicating that they may improve drug sensitivity and lessen adverse effects. This review examines ginger's bioactive ingredients, their molecular mechanisms for treating cancer, and the possible therapeutic uses of ginger-based treatments. Despite encouraging preclinical findings, more clinical research is required to completely comprehend ginger's and its compounds' therapeutic potential in the prevention and treatment of cancer.
