Abstract

Background: Pulmonary embolism is a potentially fatal medical condition. The objective of this study was to determine specificity and sensitivity of different echocardiographic parameters in PE and test the role of ESN in predicting the side and localization of PE.
Aim: This research investigated the diagnostic accuracy of different echocardiographic parameters and the role of early systolic notch in predicting side and localization of PE.
Subjects Methods: This observational study was done in Benha University and Nasr city hospitals, from August 2023 to March 2024, 150 patients were included to study the diagnostic accuracy of different echocardiographic parameters in PE. All subjects underwent history taking, clinical examination,Echocardiography and CTPA.
Results: We included (I)67 patients with pulmonary emboli and (II)83 without pulmonary emboli patients in the study (mean age 65.54 ±11.14 years, 44.6% males). Patients of group I had significantly higher difference in D dimer, early systolic notch, basal RV dimensions, Basal right ventricular/left ventricular ratio >1, Maconneell sign, 60/60 sign, Flattened inter ventricle septum, dilated IVC with collapsibility
